I came to Austin in 2002 when I started at the University of Texas' School of Law. I lived in
an apartment right here on Manor Road and that was when I got my first taste of East Austin.
After law school, I was fortunate enough to be offered a job at McGinnis, Lochridge, and Kilgore where I currently
practice law. McGinnis is a special place that was founded on a belief that being an attorney carries with it the
obligation to serve those less fortunate. Because of that dedication, McGinnis has a staff and attorneys who care
deeply about our community.
In 2006, I moved to East Austin and purchased my house. I knew this was where I belonged. It's an amazing
place; colorful, open-minded, compassionate, and most importantly full of Democrats! This is my home, and the
values of this community are my values.
Also in 2006, I was honored to be appointed to the Austin Human Rights Commission, where I have had the pleasure of
serving with leaders like Sandra Serna and DeWayne Lofton. People like me who care about issues of social justice
and equality for all of Austin's citizens.
Through my work on that commission, I realized that despite Austin's successes, there exist unjustifiable inequities
in our city. I saw prosperity bypassing my East Austin neighbors at the same time our representative was endorsing
the Republican ideologies of starving our public schools and denying our children the healthcare they need.
I realized I had a choice. Either I could idly sit by and watch our schools crumble, our infrastructure decay, and
watch our community risk the loss of an entire generation, or I could can stand up and challenge those unwilling
to fight for the best interests of this community. I have made my choice, and I am running this campaign to fight
for the best interests of this community.
